the haitian disaster
It seems like Mother Nature has it out for the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti was hit by 4....yes 4....hurricanes in 2008. Hundreds of people were missing or dead. Now in the beginning of 2010 they have been hit even harder by a massive earthquake. Buildings are rubble. People are dead and missing. As you can see above Haiti is located toward the edge or the Caribbean Plate. If I'm not mistaken Port-au-Prince was the hardest hit part of Haiti which I find a little odd because PoP is located more on the Southern portion of Haiti. I thought that usually earthquakes are located more toward the plate but I guess I am wrong. I am no geographer or earthquakologist but it does interest me.
To all those aiding in the relief of this country please be careful. A good portion of those who live there are, unfortunately for them, infected with HIV as well as TB
